After a talk I gave about the shiny objects I've spent a lifetime chasing, a man in the audience told me it was lovely, and asked for something else entirely. Not the highlight reel. Not the version with the good stories and the famous names. He wanted to know what actually happened behind it, how a child who needed the world to tell her she mattered became a woman who no longer does.

I don't think he knew what he was asking. In this episode, I sit with that question honestly, the chapters I've never fully told, the years I can barely remember, and why speaking any of it still costs me something, even now.

I get honest about my own addiction to shiny objects, the people, promises, and validation that kept me hooked for decades and cost me the ability to speak my truth. I trace the rage of finally seeing it, the physical toll it took on my body, and the generations before me who carried the same pattern. This is what it sounds like to come home to yourself.

In this solo episode, I trace a through line I could not have named until now - from a seven-year-old girl cast in her first small film, to a successful voice and on-camera career, to five different podcast series made with minimal effort at being found. The thread connecting all of it is the same: a performer's gift used, unconsciously, as a shield.

I name the moment I ran from New York back to Ohio forty years ago - away from exposure, away from traction, away from the thing I loved most - and the moment I recognized that same edge showing up again now. Different work. Same fear. Same choice.
